IN NYC THIS SPRING, ART GETS OUT
April 13 2017 | Culture
New York City’s art community is always pushing the boundaries of creative expression. Here, art overflows into the streets. In a city filled with so many creative people from so many diverse backgrounds, you’ll find art popping up in the most unlikely — and most beautiful — places.
Spanning nearly 433 acres, Randall’s Island Park itself is worth a day or two of exploration. It offers waterfront walking paths, more than 60 athletic fields, fun playgrounds, fragrant gardens, and more.
This year, opening day at Randall’s Island Park is May 6 and will feature a unique outdoor art exhibition. Learn more below and check out the other opportunites to get out and experience art in NYC.
FLOW.17 Opening Day
Enjoy Randall’s Island Park at FLOW.17 Opening Day on May 6, with exhibits and events happening from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Every year, this free event features an art installation from a participant in the Bronx Museum’s Artists in the Marketplace (AIM) program for emerging artists. You’ll be able to meet this year’s featured artist and explore the unique pieces of outdoor public art she’s brought to the park.
Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit
See fine artists and craft artisans from around the metropolitan area. A short trip south from The Evelyn, the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit happens twice a year, and the first one is coming up on Memorial Day Weekend in May. It’s a sidewalk show in the heart of Greenwich Village where you can browse graphics, mixed media, oils and acrylics, watercolor, photography, sculpture, crafts, and more.
Uptown Arts Stroll
Artists of all disciplines gather for the Uptown Arts Stroll, which takes place for the entire month of June. You’ll have an opportunity to experience visual artists, singers, musicians, dancers, poets, theater groups, and more from the Washington Heights, Inwood, and West Harlem neighborhoods of Northern Manhattan. This year the Uptown Arts Stroll will feature open studios, art exhibitions, concerts, literary events, and performances.
