A trip to New York City isn’t complete without seeing a play — both on and off Broadway. We’ve rounded up 10 of our favorites so you can find one perfectly tailored to your taste.

On Broadway:

1. Hello, Dolly!

Two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters returns to Broadway this season with Hello, Dolly! Join matchmaker Dolly Gallagher Levi as she travels to Yonkers, New York, to find a match for Horace Vandergelder, an unmarried “half-millionaire.”

2. Anastasia

Inspired by one of the most-successful Disney films, Anastasia follows the story of a brave women who travels into the past, from the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s.

3. A Bronx Tale: The New Musical

Based on the real-life story of Chazz Palminteri, A Bronx Tale: The New Musical transports viewers back to the stoops of The Bronx in the 1960s, accompanied by a doo-wop score.

4. The Play That Goes Wrong

From the producer of Avenue Q and Something Rotten! comes The Play That Goes Wrong, Broadway’s funniest and longest-running play, chock-full of humor and whimsy.

5. The Children

The Children carries out the story about two married, retired nuclear engineers who manage to live a quiet life in a post-apocalyptic world — that is, until they receive a curious visit from a relative.

Off Broadway:

1. Frankenstein

Ensemble for the Romantic Century presents Frankenstein, faithfully based off Shelley’s classic novel of the same name and personal diaries, accompanied with compositions by Bach and Schubert.

2. Jersey Boys

Sing along to legendary Jersey Boys hits including “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like A Man,” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” as you enjoy the sensational story of four men from New Jersey who stepped into a life-changing music career.

3. Sweeney Todd

Looking for a thrill? Snag a ticket to Sweeney Todd, which tells the hair-raising story of “The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” as he commits murders within his barber shop.

4. Perfect Crime

Is it possible to commit the perfect crime? Margaret Thorne Brent thinks so. Perfect Crime, the longest-running off-Broadway hit musical, treats guests with its original 1987 dialogue of murder and mystery.

5. The Marvelous Wonderettes

Take a trip to the 1958 Springfield High School prom with the The Marvelous Wonderettes, following the lives and loves of a four-girl band who eventually meet for a 10-year reunion.
